Yesterday, a bomb exploded in a subway carriage between Technologichal institute and Sennaya square stations in St. Petersburg. 11 (renewed figures) were killed, about 50 were injured. The city united to help itself with many companies and facilities working for free and drivers offering a free pick up to home.
Media reported that a self-made bomb was activated at the middle of the day, on April 3, in the third carriage on its way from Technological institute to Sennaya square. A busy stretch with a lot of people at any time. The machinist didn’t stop the movement, and passengers awaiting for the arrival of the train saw what you can see in the picture below.
At the moment: 11 killed, nearly 50 are in hospitals.
The reaction of emergency services were fast and highly coordinated. The St. Petersburg subway was closed which is typical for such a situation. Another unexploded unit was later discovered at Ploshad Vosstaniya (The Uprising Square) station. President Vladimir Putin who was in the city at the moment was briefed on the situation.
No dramatic details. But there are a lot of surprising facts.
With the subway being closed, drivers began to offer pickups for anyone for free through an Internet service by the national search engine service Yandex.
A petrol station announced that anyone could fuel his car for up to 500 rubles (about 15 litres) for free. A few eateries were giving free food.
Many residents offered a free stay at their homes for those who had troubles for getting home because of traffic jams.
City authorities were very quick to add buses to streets, one of which a St. Petersburg Travel Guide correspondent used. Public transport was free. A toll road became free.
The atmosphere in the streets was very calm. No panic, no fear, no hard feelings, that’s what we have seen today.

FC Zenit St. Petersburg’s Captain Miguel Danny recorded a video (in Portuguese) saying «We are one team… We have to fight against terrorism and win… We’re strong, we will overcome».
