St. Petersburg’s center and sleeping districts are heavily dotted with bars and pubs, even more intense than with museums. In Russia bars and pubs function similarly to how they operate anywhere else in the world, but with some distinctions. We publish a list of chains having more than five outlets with addresses of all the establishments in a chain.
Some Essentials On Bars, Pubs and Beer Restaurants
What you should keep in mind when going to a Russian bar or a pub:
• while the pub and the bar are different kinds of establishments, in Russia under the “pub” it’s often meant “bar” and vice versa. In fact, most establishments are a mixture of the both;
• food is served in most Russian pubs and even bars. Menu is usually extensive, features salads, soups, pizzas, steaks, not only snack and appetizers. In the midday, you can have a lunch here.
• bars and pubs mostly open from the morning to late night. On weekends, they tend to be open till the morning.
• loud music can be heard rarely so that people can have a conversation without getting hoarse voice;
• smoking is strictly forbidden in compliance with national legislation;
• there is no any officially or unofficially standard set for tips; neither is there any obligation on your part to leave tips, nor are they included in a bill;
• hostesses are usually friendly, but unwanted moves and flirt are not welcomed;
• all the bars accept bank cards and cash in payment;
• there is limit age. It’s 18 years. Some bars can set it at 21 years, though it’s illegal. Anyone from 18 years old has a right to buy and consume alcohol in Russia with no exceptions.

For your better orientation in the city, we translated some topographic elements as the Google map uses both English terms and their Russian equivalents in a transliterated form.
