St. Petersburg Tightens Security Measures After Terror Act At Subway

The city took some steps to advance security across the area including transport infrastructure and public spaces, theatres made changes to their current programs. The police and secret services revealed the name of the suspect who has been reportedly killed in the action and has given comments after his «death» to local media (though the identity has not been immediately confirmed).

The city is getting back to its normal life, though some aspects are still affected.

The Hermitage museum is checking all visitors which makes it more slowly to enter. Other measures have also been taken to secure safety inside the museum’s buildings.

FC Zenit St. Petersburg announced it would deny access to fans with bags and pockets for the match against FC Anzhi on April 8.

A few concerts were cancelled and a few performances were replaced. The Mariinsky theater performed Verdi’s Requiem instead of an opera by Rimsky-Korsakov.

The St. Petersburg subway resumed operating with all the stations running, but some of them were closed for security checks from time to time.

Number of killed is 14 with 59 injured.

The police revealed the name of the suicide murderer, a Kirghiz Akbarzhon Djalilov, whose genetic marks were reportedly found on the exploded bag. Interestingly, that soon after this news had come, a news agency Rosbalt’s correspondent wrote that he had contacted the suspect by phone (left on the Djalilov’s social network page) and talked to him. Djalilov said he had not been involved in the accident. The news was not signed, neither the phone number was revealed, so the identity of the speaker had still not been confirmed.
