No, it’s not a fake, it’s the truth. One of the most aristocratic, biggest, famous Russian museum (on cover photo), founded by the Russian Emperor Alexander III, acquired a weird installation, The Rubber Toilet Bowl by St. Petersburg artist Vladimir Kozin. Social networks users are now trying to imagine how this work will be looking with Kandinsky and Malevich in the background.
For the first time, the news was reported by Mr. Kozin himself who wrote on his Facebook page at the end of December: «It’s hard to believe, but my shitter was bought by The State Russian museum». The artist told the press that negotiations lasted four years. He was apparently surprised by the deal.
We didn’t want to write about this as the news looked too weird to be the truth, but this week the museum has confirmed the deal.
So, coming soon in the halls of The State Russian museum in St. Petersburg.
It seems something has drastically changed in The State Russian museum’s collection policy. Ok, there would have been nothing unusual here, after all, you all have probably visited weird museums or contemporary art museums or something like that or even the Jan Fabre’s controversial exhibition at the Hermitage, if that had not been The Russian museum which is absolutely not associated with such kind of installations.
What’s The State Russian museum hosted in gorgeous aristocratic buildings in the centre of St. Petersburg with its splendid architecture associated with? With Ivan Aivazovsky whose exhibition here attracted crowds. With Kazimir Malevich’s Black Square, with Wasiliy Kandinsky, Nicholas Roerich, Ivan Shishkin, Isaac Levitan etc.
The museum hardly needs extravagant methods of promotion to get more users as it’s overcrowded at times.
The museum said that The Rubber Toilet Bowl was not the only purchase made last year, so there is more news to come. We are trying not to think about what it could be.
