Two St. Petersburg Restaurants Ranked By The World’s Best Restaurants Rating 2019

For the first time the World’s Best Restaurants Rating, one of the most recognized global eateries rankings, has included two outlets from St. Petersburg. The Harvest and Cococo were placed in the extended part of the rating, which can serve as a guide for those who are looking for upscale restaurants downtown to dine out. They both have websites in English.

The Harvest took 92nd place. What’s interesting and even amazing about this is that the restaurant has been launched just… six months ago. How come the eatery was admitted to the elite club so quickly? We can only suggest that the experience of the founders who are running a few more eateries in the city helped them gain success.

The Harvest

The Harvest is a two-story restaurant with very simple, we’d even say minimalistic, interior, and very affordable prices. We would not be much surprised to know that regarding the price/quality ratio, it’s one of the best restaurants in the whole rating. The menu focuses on vegetables, which looks rather trendy as a growing number of Russians prefer healthier food.

Highlights of the menu:
• dried beetroot with stracchino cheese – 350 rubles;
• fresh salmon with citrus sauce – 490 rubles;
• Broccoli cake with sour cream and parmesan – 450 rubles;
• Cornichon chicken with cep mousse – 550 rubles.

Cococo

Cococo which opened in 2012 with a rather original concept, unique for St. Petersburg and rarely seen across Russia, was ranked 104th. The menu features dishes prepared with local ingredients sourced from nearby farms. That’s Russian traditional fare in modern interpretation with dishes following seasons: you eat what local farmers can deliver during the current time of year. We can call it a real delve into St. Petersburg’s culinary scene. They also got a rather expansive vegetarian section. Breakfasts are served from 07.00.

There are a few items we’d test (and taste!) ourselves:
• Bruschetta with slightly salted wild salmon — 450 rubles;
• Russian-Finnish ukha (fish soup) – 650 rubles;
• Buckwheat pasta with crab – 790 rubles;
• Cabbage steak with wild muri and sour cream – 390 rubles.
