Professional Team Sports In St. Petersburg

A football (soccer) League of champions’ match instead of Figaro at the Mariinsky theater? Watching fight of tough guys on ice of an ice hockey field after visiting the Hermitage? If yes, then below we have a list of the local sport professional teams from basketball to waterpolo to watch throughout the year in Saint Petersburg. And a few advices for sport fans visiting sport venues.

Some Tips On Visiting Sport Events

While football (soccer) in Russia is the same as soccer anywhere in the world, and the rules of basketball do not differ much from the ones of NBA’s, there is still some difference in how sports events are being handled. Albeit no great specific in it, but anyway we have something we think you necessarily need to know.

1. Every big, popular match (or a concert) attracting thousands of visitors, will meet you with security measures in the form of door frame metal detector and a lot of police. To some degree it makes things slower, so our advice here is to arrive in advance, 30-45 minutes before the show starts. First of all, this advice should be followed when you’re coming to the matches of Zenit football club, Zenit basketball club and SKA ice hockey club.

2. Some items are prohibited to bring, among them drinks, fireworks, weapon, knives, smoke flairs, tolite, willows and everything like that. Regarding photos the rules differ. During an ice hockey match of SKA, it’s strictly prohibited to make a picture of a game by a good Canon or Nikon or Sony, but it’s allowed to snapshot on phone. During football and basketball matches there are no any restrictions on photographing.

3. The best and most convenient way to buy tickets is online, but you must have them printed. Offline you can purchase tickets at corporate shops of the teams (in case of both Zenits and SKA), their headquarters or venues. To many professional sport games in Saint Petersburg access is free.
