Transport And Weather In St. Peterburg On New Year’s Eve 2017

New Year

The city seems to be prepared well for the coming of the year 2017. Tranpost will get you almost everywhere throughout the city, a show program will be extensive and the weather is predicted to be like of a tropical country.

Transport

Subway will be in operation through the night, but at longer intervals than usually. Please, mind that fare, we mean tokens, will cost much more than now, in 2016 — 45 rubles instead of 35 now. The best option is to buy the Podorozhnik card, via the Podorozhnik every trip by subway costs 37 rubles, or buy tokens in advance.

11 bus routes will be available (if you need to know whether your destination will be covered by one of these routes, send us a question) also through the night, other regular buses will be on line from 06.00.

Some tram and trolleybus routes will start operation at 04.00, and the rest at 06.00.

Taxi will be reportedly twice as expensive as usually or even more. We recommend you to use only official taxi companies. Keep phones of taxi services to be able to book by phone when needed.

Please, note that on the New Year’s night the telecommuncation network tends to be overloaded. At least during 00.00-01.00 making a call will be diffucult if possible at all.

Weather

The weather promises to be of early spring: an incredible +5 C. We have never seen the weather like that on the first night of the year. Our condolences to those who have come here to celebrate «the real Russian» New Year’s Eve with snow and frost, you should have chosen something like Irkutsk or Novosibirsk.

Entertainment

All city boroughs will be conducting their own cultural programs which usually feature open-air concerts and show. The main show will be held on the Dvortsovaya square in opposite of the Hermitage. What we know about it is that it’s rather funny and not boring, though we’d prefer someting more calm.

Fireworks rules envisage a lot of restrictions, but only few try to obey them. Our common recommendation is to choose a place for launching lights into the sky as far from buildings as possible. Usually that’s enough.

And trying to fall asleep before 06.00 will be difficult: the last loud fireworks end about this time.
