Warning For Those Who Travel To St. Petersburg In Middle 2020 And Later

Typical commercial buses

If you are going to St. Petersburg in 2020, then you’d better be on alert regarding how to get to major sightseeings and get around the city. Local authorities are now undertaking a big transport reform which one day in July 2020 will make all your print and online guides on the city out of date. The reform will change the routes of public transport, which means you will have to use new routes.

There is a very important warning for anyone who intends to come to St. Petersburg after June 2020. Ignoring this warning will leave you stranded or get transported to the wrong place. So you’d better read it carefully.

Look, how the St. Petersburg bus system operates now:
— there are public city-funded and city-operated buses routes;
— there are commercial routes operated by private buses marked with letter «K». Typical commercial buses are pictured on the photo above.

Routes to many places like Peterhof and Pushkin (Tsarskoe Selo), Kronstadt are served by both public and commercial buses, with the latter ones being in most cases much more convenient and faster.

How the St. Petersburg bus system will be operating since July 2020:
— only public buses will remain;
— all the commercial routes will be scrapped;
— new public routes will be added.

This all means that all transport guides including all our posts on how to get to the fountains of Peterhof or the Amber Room in the Catherine palace in Pushkin or Pulkovo airport, etc. will one day become outdated. We’re getting ready to this by monitoring the reform to be able to alter the content on our website and get you into the right direction.

You would better follow our site or our social media accounts to keep yourself updated on the changes to the St. Petersburg transport system.
