Erarta Museum Of Contemporary Art In St. Petersburg

If you are a sceptic, we should agree with you that the contemporary art is sometimes a bit crazy and its content can be very strange and funny. But you can`t say anything like this about the Erarta museum`s exhibitions. Today, lots of modern artists have beautiful entertaining pictures and sculptors still can make interesting statues. Of course, there are some creations that should be explained to you by art experts, but you can`t find too many of them.

Tickets: A guided tour costs 200 rubles. Tours run daily at 12:00, 16:00, and 19:00. An audio guide costs 200 rubles.
A General Admission Ticket costs 600 rubles. One-Year Membership costs from 650 rubles and allows unlimited access to the museum and all its temporary exhibitions for an entire year.
Photography without a flash is allowed and even encouraged.

There is a cloak room. You can take with you big bags and backpacks, but the museum can offer you a luggage room.

To visit the exhibit up and down, Erarta gives you 2 hours and a half. There are also some multimedia shows available (all of them last not more than 30 minutes). But you can spend all day in the museum if you want.

Everybody, who likes paintings, installations, sculptures and multimedia products will be excited with Erarta`s exhibitions. If you are not one, maybe you will like museum`s multimedia. We know at least 10 people who often go to Erarta not only to see some changeable exhibits, but even to see the same pictures. It`s why the special annual pass was made.

How To Reach Erarta

The most convenient way to reach Erarta is to go by subway and then commercial minibus. Go to Vasileostrovskaya subway station. Upon exit the station, across the road you will see a McDonald`s. Opposite to its entrance, there is a minibus K-44 station (you can see it just near the McDonald’s doors in the photo below). This bus will take you up the Sredniy Prospect to the cross of 28th and 29th lines in 5-7 minutes.

Ask the driver where you should exit to reach the Erarta. He`ll answer you with pleasure. Lots of people go to Erarta on the weekends, so many of them will exit from the bus in the right place.

If you go on foot from the station, it will take you 25 minutes to reach Erarta. We advise you not to do it because you will also walk much in the museum.

Erarta`s building is yellow. You can see it on the left in the direction of vehicle motion. The building has 5 floors.

There are some other ways to reach Erarta, all of them you can see on the official website of the museum. We described the easiest and the most convenient one. You can go directly by bus or trolleybus from the Nevsky prospect, but this way is much longer. Also there are often traffic jams.

The building is divided into two parts: at the left one, there is a constant exhibition and at the right there are temporary exhibitions that are being changed every quarter. All photos you can see below are made long ago, so maybe some pictures are not presented now. We show them to give you an idea what’s Erarta is about.

It would be strange if Erarta offered you only classical pictures and installations which have been presenting in all museums since that time when the 1st exhibition was held in the world. While taking of view of the museum, you will see some multimedia projects, some of them are not in the main exhibition so you have to pay extra money to see them (for example, one of such projects is U-Space that costs 200 rubles from a company of five persons). This project combines installations and video art curiously.

Also there`s an interesting Artific Animation. In this project even an ordinary picture gets a move and becomes a cartoon that changes statical picture into a part of the whole story. We think that the founder of painting “Field path” (by Alexander Rumyantsev, 1996) hardly suspected that all people from his painting have such an interesting life (watch the video below).

Some Other Interesting Things At Erarta

Erarta includes all modern ways of communication with people to make this communication more friendly and easy. There is a beautiful but quite inexpensive shop where you can make an order and then take a copy of any picture you like or buy it online.

Surely, you`re not surprised, but what is new here is that you can make an order in Erarta and have it delivered to your home. So you don’t have to bring big pictures or strange souvenirs yourself.

You can also make an order even of… design of your own flat or house. Gift certificates are also available. So Erarta is a huge and modern art shop.
