A Russian programmer was so tired of waiting for a Clubhouse for Android to come that he decided to do it himself. Spending just one day, he has written an app, ironically called Houseclub, performing something like a bridge between a user with an Android and Clubhouse. Now it provides the core functionality of the Clubhouse for iOS.
On February 19, a St. Petersburg resident wrote in his Twitter account @grishka11 (Гришка, or in English Grishka is short and informal for the Russian name Grigori) that «I’m fed up with waiting for a Clubhouse for Android and created the one myself having spent one day». He explained further down a thread that Clubhouse is technically three SaaS things: Agora for voices, PubNub for real-time updates, and AWS for the storage of static data like avatars.
On his webpage at GitHub, where he has downloaded his code for everyone, Grishka who presents himself on Twitter as «software developer. Ex VK, Telegram. Currently working on a decentralized social network», said «I saw that project with the Clubhouse API reverse engineered and thought to myself why not. The only thing I had to reverse engineer myself was the PubNub part, but a pirated copy of Charles made a quick job of that». His app Houseclub makes the real Clubhouse «think» that the user connects through his iOs gadget which is not so in reality.
What you can do with Grishka’s Houseclub is joining rooms and speaking as well as raising your hands and following / unfollowing people. A few other basic features are on, while the rest is still off.
People, who had used the service, reported various bugs what is not something to be surprised at given the period of time the service had been created within. Volume cannot be regulated, interference noise exists, someone could not enter a room.
But the main open question is whether your iOS Clubhouse account is in danger of being banned after you have joined with Grishka’s Clubhouse version? The answer by the creator looks intriguing: «The probability of that happening is not zero».
