St. Petersburg is steeping into spirits of festivities. We have made up a list of all major St. Petersburg’s markets selling handmade arts and crafts, Christmas one-off lovely things, wooden toys, confectionery, pouring mulled wine and trying to entertain you like never.
A few tips before you embark on a walk around the downtown where most outdoor and indoor markets are located.
If you are looking for something with Russian soul and tradition, you will hardly find it. Most markets, if not all of them, are mimicking their European counterparts with all the style and scents of mulled wine and gingerbread imported from what you meet in Germany or Poland or elsewhere. Regarding Russian souvenirs, well, yes, you are likely to find them.
Some Christmas markets work until the middle of January instead of closing doors in late December as the start of January is only a starting point for Russians to celebrate: the New Year’s holidays begin on January 1 and last to January 8, with the first work day in the country being January 9. So, the real Christmas and New Year celebration period in Russia is from December 15 till January 8.
Most markets are filled with not only stalls with food and goods, but with a lot of entertainments in form of musical and dancing performances.
The list is in chronological order.
The streets and subway stations are written as they are in the Google map.
The last tip: take cash with you. Most merchants accept bank cards, but some don’t.

The territory of the Southern atrium allows to accommodate one of the largest indoor markets in the city let alone it provides a great opportunity for shopping, a food court and a food hall.
