German airlines Germania will start operating on St. Petersburg – Dresden route making the former DDR city a sixth German point to land on a flight from Pulkovo airport.
As Sieghard Jähn, Germania’s CEO, told the press, flights will start as of 26 April 2018, which is beautifully timed as high tourism season begins at late April.
Flights will be made twice a week:
— on Thursday and Sunday from Dresden to St. Petersburg;
— on Friday and Monday from St. Petersburg to Dresden.
There are flights from St. Petersburg Pulkovo airport to five German cities now:
• Berlin (Rossiya Airlines, S7 Airlines);
• Hamburg (Rossiya Airlines);
• Duesseldorf (Rossiya Airlines);
• Munich (Rossiya Airlines, Lufthansa);
• Frankfurt-am-Mein (Lufthansa).
In January – October 2017, nearly 564,000 passengers were transported on the St. Petersburg – Germany routes, up 20% to the corresponding of 2016.
Surely, 2017 will see a further increase due to the FIFA World Cup, first match of which will be played at the St. Petersburg stadium. The Germany’s national football team has qualified for the tournament.
