Russian consumers’ rights watchdog published a list of hotels and hostels who illegally and artificially inflated their priced for the period of the World Cup 2018. 26 of them are in St. Petersburg, with a rate of overrun between 4% and 78%.
Last year, limit prices for accommodation in host cities for the World Cup were set by a governmental decree. This year, Russian governmental body Rospotrebnadzor, which is in charge of protection of consumers, has started to monitor how hotels and hostels are complying with the decree. It regularly publishes lists of companies violating the rule.
The last inspection revealed that 26 St. Petersburg hotels established their prices for the summer 2018 significantly above the limits. We publish this list too. Not that we recommend you to avoid booking them, but be careful with their prices and look for somewhere else.
In cases, a rate of overrun is given in two figures like 12%-41%, which means that for one category of rooms the overrun is 12% and for another one – 41%. There is a hostel listed, The Soul Kitchen, which was recognized as the best hostel in the world several times.
