Russian Railways have launched a direct train route from St. Petersburg to Pskov, a capital of the Pskov region, a major tourist destination. A three and a half hour travel by train, cheaper, faster and more comfortable than by bus, to Pskov makes it a one-day trip from St. Petersburg.

The Lastochka train (Ласточка in Russian) consists of five cars with three classes of services:
— the basic class (cars 1 and 2): price from 360 rubles;
— the economy class (cars 3, 4 and 5): from 432 rubles;
— the business class (a special area in the car 5): from 1484 rubles;
You can buy tickets for the train St. Petersburg – Pskov via the most popular online-aggregator in Russian Tutu.ru as early as 90 days before departure.
Onboard services in Lastochka to Pskov:
— hot and cold drink water;
— sockets to charge phone and plug your gadget (in the business and economy classes);
— free Wi-Fi;
— WC in cars 1, 3 and 5;
— a special area for dogs transportation in car 3;
— seats for disabled people with a special WC and supervision;

— Gatchina;
— Luga;
— Strugi Krasnie.
Schedule of the Lastochka train on the St. Petersburg – Pskov and Pskov – St. Petersburg route:
— departure from St. Petersburg at 06.55 from the Baltiysky vokzal railway station, arrival in Pskov at 10.25, daily;
— departure from Pskov at 06.00, arrival in St. Petersburg at 09.30, daily.
Evening flights:
— departure from St. Petersburg at 20.15, arrival in Pskov at 23.45, daily;
— departure from Pskov at 18.05, arrival in St. Petersburg at 21.35, daily.
As of January 18, 2019, daytime departures are added. In January and February 2019, they will be on some days only (details below), as of March 1 they are to become daily.
Daytime flights:
— departure from St. Petersburg at 14.15, arrival in Pskov at 17.45, daily;
— departure from Pskov at 12.00, arrival in St. Petersburg at 15.30, daily.
Daytime flights will be in January on 18, 20, 25 and 27; in February on 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 23 and 24; as of March — daily.
So, this new route is going to turn Pskov into a nice one-day trip from St. Petersburg.
