So, the winter is coming, and an annual multimedia show of shutting down the Peterhof’s fountains for cold season is to take place in a week.
IMPORTANT: The museum has already imposed some restrictions associated with it in effect as of September, 8, and introduced a new schedule on the show days, so read the information below carefully if you are going to visit Peterhof in a period of September 8 – September 18.
Before you ask: no, the ceremony doesn’t mean the fountains will be switched off. That’s just a show to mark the end of the season. Physically, the fountains will be in operation about until the middle of October.
A 45-minute show is a mixture of narrative, music, dancing, singing, laser, and, of course, fountains. This year, it features a tale that will be better understandable to those familiar with Russian culture and history, though, it will be of interest for people who don’t know the background well (even many Russians don’t) too. Just keep in mind that it’s something about travel, discovery and love for Motherland. That’s enough to enjoy with it, as you can see it in the video below.
This year’s show is called A Journey Beyond Three Seas, after a tale written by Afanasy Nikitin, a Russian Middle Ages merchant, traveler and writer who visited India and Persia in 1468 – 1475.
Tickets: 1000 for adult. The tickets for the show are valid for entering the Lower Garden since 18.00.
The multimedia performance is to take place in the Lower Garden of the Peterhof museum complex, and this will affect its schedule and your visit there too.
