Lost&Found On Russian Railways

Lost luggage

If you happened to have traveled on Russian long-distance trains and lost your belongings, now there is a quick and simple online service to apply for their return. Russian Railways (RZD) have recently launched the service which is now available only in Russian, but we provided translation of the application form.

Three important notes:

• The online lost and found service on Russian Railways is available for long-distance trains only, you cannot use it if you lost something when going by commuters trains.
• You can apply no later than 30 days since your trip;
• If you lost something when travelling on Sapsan train, another procedure must be used since Sapsan is run by other department of the Russian Railways. For this read our post about Sapsan train.

Step-by-step instruction to find things lost on Russian trains:

— visit https://lost.fpc.ru. That’s a special website run by the Federal Passenger Company (FPC) responsible for operation of all Russian long-distance trains except high-speed ones – Sapsan and Allegro;
— fill in the application form (details and translation below);
— you get photos of things picked by train personnel so that you can tell whether they are yours;
— in case you recognize your things by the photos you obtained, you will be told where and when you can get them back. It will highly likely be the final destination of your journey.

How to fill in the application for lost things

The application is suggested to be filled in in Russian, and we don’t know whether applications in English are accepted. You can ask us for help via the contact form or in the comment section under the post.

Here is the translation of the sections of the form:
— Как к Вам обращаться / your name;
— Номер билета / the number of your ticket;
— Последние 4 цифры номера документа,
по которому оформлен билет / the last four numbers of your ID card which you used when purchasing your ticket;
— Адрес электронной почты / your e-mail;
— Номер телефона / your phone number;
— Наименование забытых вещей / what your belongings are (phone, book, iPad, bag);
— Подробное описание вещей (цвет, размер, иные характеристики) и информация о месте, где были забыты вещи внутри вагона / a detailed description of the belongings (color, size, etc.) and where in the car you think you lost them;
Upon completion, push the red button down right / Подать заявку (Send the application).
